Looking for an Ancestor?

I have found that when I'm looking for an ancestor that I'm having difficulty finding, I have better success if I write down everything I know about that ancestor. I write down everything in a list form, rather than a paragraph. Then I know where I'm at. Then I list everywhere I want to look. A research plan is next, with a question from the list. Then I make short notes on where I want to research based on my research plan. I keep these as part of that person's file. Sometimes it helps to go back and look when searching for another person. Don't forget to look in places you might not normally look, such as county histories or Findagrave.
